She was helpless, speechless. She wanted to go and grab her. But deep down inside, she knew she couldn’t.
Teary eyed, she watched her daughter pack her bags, ready to leave.
The very fact that she was never going to see her daughter again killed her. But she knew she couldn’t stop her. She never made her feel that her mother was there for her.
In fact, she never knew what it was to have a mother. And now that she was old enough to take care of herself and things around her, she had nothing to stop her from leaving. She knew this was what she had to do but somehow, it was hard. She wanted to let out all her pain through tears. The tears she was holding back as they would make her weak. So she gathered all her strength and reached for the door.
She turned around to see her mother the last time. The same women who was responsible for all the hatred inside her. The women who was the reason for the tears in her eyes. The women she hated to love. With pain and regret in her eyes, she spoke with a heavy heart and a faint voice,
‘Mom. I wish you gave me even a small reason to stay.”
And she walked out on the dark street wondering how things could have been.

Confused, Perplexed. Nathalie never knew what to do when it came to John.
He was someone she could trust. Someone she could look upto. But it was funny because most of the time he annoyed her. Not that it was his fault. He loved her. And its not like she didn’t. But it just wasn’t the same.
And for Nathalie, It could never be. He was a friend. He was someone who cared for her.
He was someone she could be herself with. He was someone who could talk to her for hours. But for her, He was a friend and he would always be.
John knew Nathalie since the age of four. They ran around her backyard holding hands. They grew up together. And after fifteen years it was still the same. No one knew Nathalie more than he did. But that september night things did change. It was her birthday.
She unwrapped her gift with anxiety as the clock struck 12. She knew he would come.
Her eyes gleamed with joy as she saw the blue colored scrapbook with her name on it. With each page she went through her smile just got wider.
And by the end of it, she had tears in her eyes. She hugged him. There it was in front of her eyes. Each memory they had together, wrapped up behind that glittering blue paper. Like every year, they cut her cake, chatted for a while and he left. But that night, unlike every other time, she did not sleep. She went through the scrapbook again and again. And it was after the fifty sixth time that she realized. She loved him. She always had. She was just scared to loose the friendship that they had. She didn’t want to take chances.
And it was the next night, that it happened. They were walking besides the lake. But unlike every other day. Nathalie was quieter. She wanted to feel each moment.
‘Umm.. John?’
‘Yes?’
‘Did I ever tell you that you are such a freak?’
’ Yeah. Probably a million times. Why now?’
’ You couldn’t makes me realize that I loved you earlier. Dumbhead.’
His heart skipped a beat. And he had the biggest smile on his face. John couldn’t believe his ears.
’ And stop standing here now. We have our wedding to work on’
And his heart was filled joy. After all these years, he finally had what he always wanted. He was living his dream.
’ But Nathie there is just one thing I need to do before we walk back’
‘What?’
They kissed.

And sometimes you just don’t know why…
And its not like she didn’t know how important he was. She just never thought that he would go away.
It was a typical saturday morning. She got up with the sound of her ringtone. Its was him. He never forgot to call her. Each morning, just to tell her that he loves her. And she reacted in the same way. It was nothing different for her. She no more felt that slight tingle in her heart when he said that.
’ I love you too’
These words just came out of her mouth. I was like a reflex action now.
She brushed her teeth and went downstairs. And thats when the phone rang again. It was him.
’ I’ m sorry. But I just can’t do this anymore. I love you. But its just not the same. Its like I’m forcing you into something. And that was never the whole point of it. You’re a great girl. A sweetheart. I love you. But I’m sorry.’
*Beep*
And she just couldn’t say a word. She just sat on her kitchen floor. Dumbstruck. And then it struck her. She realized what she had just done. She spoiled her relationship on her own. Trying to look for too much. Ignoring the little moments that make it all special. She didn’t know if she could undo it. But she had to try. She just had to.
She dashed out the door and jumped into her car. She drove as fast as she could. Honking away in her pajamas. She didn’t care how she looked. How her hair was messed up. Her heart beating faster then it ever had. She didn’t know if she was even breathing properly. There was a twitch in her stomach.
She reached his door. As soon as he opened it, She hugged him. With tears in her eyes. She had a lot to say. But words just didn’t seem to come out of her mouth.
’ Its okay love. I knew you would come. You don’t have to cry. I’m not leaving you. I can’t. I never could. And I’m sorry that I did this. But this was important. I did this for us. I love you’
And at that moment. Sobbing in his arms. She learned the truth about love. Its not only about not taking love for granted. But valuing it. Embracing it. And yeah,
True love does stick around :)
